I saw StylinConcepts.com selling "Caliper Paint" for like 30 bucks a can.

I would like to paint my calipers, but really dont want to spend 30 bucks on a can of spray paint. They say it holds up to the heat well.

Has anybody used just a regular good spray enamel on their calipers? How was the results? I dont feel like smelling burnt paint if it can't take the heat.

Any help would be great.

regular paint wont hold up. There's cheaper caliper paints at discount/autozone/etc.

Just use dupli-color with ceramic High temp paint, you can paint headers with the stuff and it will not burn off

I used the cheap hi-temp rattle can stuff from auto zone.
Not the shineyst stuff in the world ( which is the way I wanted it ) but in over three years of stoping it has not flaked off in the least.

I am guessing the expesnive stuff may have a nicer shine or somthing, but I see nothing wrong with the cheap stuff

I'll just be painting them white to match my truck, they don't have to be super glossy or anything. Ill try the cheapie stuff and report back (with pics of course).

Thanks.

At 8 bux per can would not call it cheap, and the Dupli-color ceramic has only been on the market for a few mos, has a great high gloss finish.
How it holds up long term is yet to be seen

The brush on type made for calipers evidently works well. I think it's not in local stores though, it costs $25+ for a kit.

Spindlecone, speaking of brakes, can you look into getting late Mustang hubs to mount onto Explorer 4x4 spindles? If you could mount the hubs in the same location as Explorer 4x4 hubs, then you could benefit from the 13" Cobra rotors, etc. That's just a thought I had a few days ago about the brake upgrade that I am planning for the 4WD Explorers. Regards,

The stuff I bought was less than that. Five bucks if I recall. Like many things in the automotive industry there are many, many choices.
I think it was VTH or some three letter brand.

Plus with the cheaper stuff if it starts to look bad, just clean it up again and repaint it.
On the front axle and frame that you can see up front on my Explorer I just use that cheap tractor black paint and just put another coat on when it gets bad looking.

all 4 calipers are red on my truck, Duplicolor high heat bright red.
When I service a wheel I use some starting fluid (ether) to clean them up to red again, the paint holds up really well, and like Perry said once they get looking bad, paint em again!

i used engine paint from autozone to paint mine white like 6 months ago and they look great. just hose them off when you wash the truck
