can you head the fuel pump cycle when you turn the key? if not check your fuses. i think there is one fuse and one relay under the hood.

Check to see if you put the fuel filter in the correct way. There should be a "Flow Arrow" or something telling you which way the fuel should flow through it. Hope that helps.

wow thanks for the quick responces unfortualy i checked the fuel filter like 3 times lol
and as far as the fuses is there a fuse and a relay???
Thanks again
Danny
by the way its a 95 xlt 4 door

yes, there is a fuse and a a relay under the hood, and i think there might be one in the fuse panel itself. if you look in your owners manual it will tell you the location. start with the easy stuff like that first.

so i checked the maual and i can only the relay in engine compartment it dosent say anything about fuses in fuse box on dash......
will these things just blow with no warning????
Thanks
Danny

When you turn the key from the off to on/run position, can you hear the fuel pump run for a short period of time? If not, it is a fuse, relay, wiring or pump issue.

Check the fuel shut off switch. Almost guarantee thats the prob.

Happened to me in one of the vids in my signature. Look up the inertia switch video.

ok so i went out and got a new relay..... no luck:mad:
i also got a code reader and it says (i think) "fuel pump circut open connection-electronic control assembly to motor ground." and "overdrive cancel indicator light- circuit faliure" WFT does this mean please help now im more confused. is it just a bad ground or something more and could the overdrive have anything to do with it???????
Danny
also the relays are clicking is that good or bad

Not trying to say you dont know what your doing or anything because I have no idea. However, did you actually push the button down or just look at it? Mine moved the slightest bit upwards and I never would have been able to tell if it was engaged or not just by looking at it.

As mentioned above can you hear the fuel pump kick on? If not its a wiring, relay, or pump issue.

no worries i dont know what the hell im doing LOL
i think i checked it good pressed it in acouple of times tapped on it wiggled it around nothing
i just got in from checking all the wires i could everything looks good from what i can see...and no sound at the pump
so new relay all fuses look good and all the wires i could see look good. the only thing else i can think of is the pump itself. anyone got any ideas cuase 150 bucks is gonna kill me if that aint it (well the wife will kill me)
anyone in Syracuse wanna come help a brother out i got cold beers:)

can someone explain to me in very simple terms (pictures would be great) how to check for power at the fuel pump. electric and gas make me very scared. i am going to just get a new fuel pump tomorrow and i wanna find out first if mine is bad but i dont know how to check for power to the pump. i have a small test light with 2 wires coming out of it will this work?? i wanna check at the connection to the pump what wires do i use? also where is the pump grounded?? i dont have a haynes manual can i get the wiring diagram online somewhere??
Thanks for any help
Danny

When my pump was going out, it was over the course of a few months. The first time it acted up I just walked into walmart for a few items, come back out and viola, no start.
I checked the inertia switch, exchanged relays with the ac relay to check, changed fuel filter. Still nothing. The next day still in parking lot went back with a voltmeter and fuel pressure guage to futher diagnose and thought what the hell i'll try and start it again just for ***** and giggles and it started right up. It's a miracle, drove it home, shut it off, tried to start it again, nothing:( . CRAP! Went into my garage and got my rubber mallet and hit the tanks 4 or 5 times and prest-o change-o, it would start again. That mallet got to ride in the passenger seat with me for the next couple months while i was dragging my heals not wanting to pay that much for a new pump. I did use that mallet, I know about 50 times. The second time my wife had to use the mallet, I changed the pump and stainer. Need to borrow a hammer?

Damn, now you just made me remember that mine doesn't have a skid plate protecting the tank. Know i've gotta figure out whcih years skid plate will work on my 01 4dr and grab one from pick-n-pull.

hey yeah i wanna borrow a hammer a real big f'en hammer so i can beat the snot out of this pos.............
so i tried that and everything else i can think.
i broke down and im gonna pay a mechenic to come take a look before a go out and buy a new fuel pump:mad::mad:
thanks for in the input and ill let you guys know what happens

Check for power at the wires going to the fuel pump at the fuel tank.
There should be a four to seven wire connector at the fuel tank. Take the connector apart. The pink/black (positive 12 volt) and black wires (ground) go to the fuel pump. With the ignition turned on, you can test the two wires that supply the fuel pump with your test light. If you have power and the pump doesn't run, the pump is bad. If you have no power at that connector, you have an electrical problem further upstream. You can run a temporary test wire directly to the battery (positive and ground) to power your fuel pump to start the engine. If the engine starts, you know your pump is good. Make sure there is no gasoline leaking anywhere around where you are working! These little tests could cause small sparks which would be a big problem if any liquid fuel was around.

just my luck

ok so i had a mechenic come over to look at things for me as my diagonistic abilities could only take me so far and of course the guy came over took the gas cap off turned the key and vroooom the pig started right up F**K up. long story short its the fuel pump. thankfully the guy happens to live very close and he didnt charge me anythin but one beer. the bad part is i have to drop the tank for second time in 2 weeks and this time it got a full tank of gas. plus $150 for the new pump. ive put in more money in parts then i have paid for the truck still tring to figure out if thats a good thing
thanks again everyone for all the help even though you were all wrong JUST KIDDING. this is a great site with a lot of great people and you have help me out very very much
So heres to explorerforum.com :salute: :salute::thumbsup:
Cheers
Danny

just for poops and giggles you may want to take a good look at the pump your replacing when you take it out. It's possible that some buildup in your tank got kicked around and clogged the strainer. Make sure you drain and clean your tank before you put new pump in so that you don't wind up in the same boat 2 months down the road.

yeah i figured it was pretty crappy in there cuase it worked for alittle while then just stopped as if something got sucked up in there and jammed it up. i just ordered a new pump so i just gonna put that in instead of tring to reuse this one with winter coming the last thing i wanna be doing is dropping the tank in 2 feet of snow
