brake light and wiring problems

:confused: 95 ford explorer eb not sure what is going on but my rear break light were not working the third brake light worked so we wired them directly from it. then the other night we turned on the head light and the truck told me to check head lights and now we smell burnt wires under the dash area please help what can possible be wrong we have already changed the brake light switch and checked all the fuses in the truck next to the drivers door all them are good.

first suggestion is to unwire your "fix".... see if the "smell" goes away or try and locate the smell.... touch for hot wiring in the area, try and locate the "culprit". Once you are back to "standard wiring", start trouble shooting the original "no brake" light problem from square one by checking its path.
