When I head off to work in the morning the brake light will come on. As soon as I stop it'll go off. One morning it was raining and I was only going about 15mph. Even at that slow, easing on the brakes my rear end locked and slid.

I notice that during the day when it's warmer it won't come on unless I hit 'em firmly.

Brakes also seem squishier than usual. I checked the fluid and it's fine. Cap was nice and sealed. No signs of any leakage anywhere.

Anyone know what would cause it to come on? I did a search and didn't find anything.

I know my front rotors are starting to warp again... and am going to replace them soon. I am also going to replace pads, and in the rear the rotors and shoes.

Front calipers also. These rotors are only a year old or so :(

It may just be a faulty fluid level sensor in the master cylinder. The squishy pedal could be from the rear brakes out of adjustment. However, the master cylinder may have a internal bypass causing a low pedal and light. Do you feel the brake pedal slowly moving to the floor when stopped for awhile with light pressure on the brake? If so it's usually not noticeable under normal braking, and if the pedal does fade if you let up then hit the brake again it will feel normal at first. Try getting in your truck and without it running hold the brake lightly and see if the pedal fades slowly, it's more noticeable without vacuum assist. If so replace the master cylinder, just don't forget to bench bleed the new one before connecting the lines. I have a feeling that the light is from the level sensor though. Also I feel ya on the local parts store rotors and drums not lasting, but the dealer wants 5 times as much for their parts. You're still saving money even if you have to replace the brakes every year and I'm sure your getting good at it. Explorers are too heavy for their little brakes that Ford thought adequite, I see more Explorers with warped drums and rotors and cracked or flaking pads/shoes than any other vehicle. That's why techs call them EXPLODERS, but I love mine regardless. Sorry so long, good luck and I hope it's just the level sender. No ABS light correct?
