Hey I have a 2002 ford explorer limited and just today my break lights started coming on and off on there on when the truck is parked and turned off? What could be causeing this? There nt just stedy flashing on and off they just go off and could be 30 seconds later or 4 mins later they come on and go off again when there ready lol I'm stumpped any ideas on the cause???
As others have said, check the brake switch. I had a similar case with mine, and when I disassembled the switch (mine had the mechanical switch, not the solid-state one) I found that the contacts on the switch had started depositing metal from one contact patch to the other which built mountains and valleys causing the contact to get stuck closed. I went ahead and shaved down the contact patches smooth again and it fixed my problem. From what I understand though, if you have the solid-state version of the switch, you'll probably be stuck with replacing it. Good luck.
