I've got a 93 explorer and go threw pads every 10 k I have duralast gold so lifetime warranty but I hate changing them and having a little more bite would be great... Any ideas guys... O yeah there a semi matalic pad

I think your problem is "duralast". I put those pieces of crap on my wife's mustang and they were gone in a heartbeat and dusted like hell. I am running wearever golds on my f150 and my wife's mustang now and I like them ALOT better.

I think you need to check your back brakes.If your going through a set in 10k, there all your useing.
 






Yeah, if you're going through pads every 10K, then I would suggest something else might be off. Are your front brakes dragging or the rear brakes not working?

yah i dont think the drums engage at all i installed new springs adjusted them and new shoes and still no good:thumbdwn:
 






Have you ever bled the system? That should tell you if you're at least getting fluid to the rears.
 






make sure you are mechanically sound. It might be as simple as turning the star wheel in the drums.

As far as an upgraded pad goes. I currently have Hawk HP+ pads on the front and really like them. Little dust, pretty quiet, and definitely more stopping power. I wish they made shoes for us. But I'm going to swap to disks soon anyway.

A proper bed in (AKA burn in) is best so brakes stop better, are quiet, and last a long time.

I have also have really good results with EBC Brakes. They have different colors to indicate usage. I prefer the "Red Stuff" on my Rx7 that sees some track time. I have also used their "Green Stuff". They now have a line just for SUVs. But I have not tried that line.

Another option to consider is you may drive like an ass hole. My very good friend Chris is one of those guys. He also replace his Autozone brakes about every year. He eff'in sucks to ride with. Way too much speed in heavy traffic (second gen Explorer) and on the phone. hammers on the brakes several time a day to avoid hitting the car in front. Has damaged every car he has ever owned in side of three years (usually less).

Does this sound like you? If any of you people drive 1/2 as bad as Chris...

no i have a 06 sti with some go fast parts :thumbsup: for that the explorer is my dd... i dident kno they made hp+ for the explorer ill have to get those.. i had them on the sti they were ok i just switched to project-mu LEVEL MAX700 and when those are warmed up there the amazing :thumbsup: no fade what so ever
 






I used satisfied ceramic pro pads in the past. However I see they don't make them any longer for a 1st gen.
 






If you think the rear brakes are not working properly then that should be your main concern. No matter what pads you use they will wear fast if the rear isn't working or is way out of adjustment. I would suggest pulling the drums to make sure everything looks ok and if it's all good I would first crack a bleeder and watch to see if any fluid drips out, it's called gravity bleeding, if you're getting fluid bleed it. If you attemt bleeding and get no fluid it may be a plugged line, proportioning valve, master cylinder, or ABS. I would also measure the drums unless you've replaced them recently.

Good luck, and keep in mind if you just try pads with a higher metallic rating it costs much more to replace rotors every 10k.
 












How did you like the hp plus pads? I was considering them to go with my new big brake setup but ended up going with the hps because I was afraid they were going to chew my rotors up.

(experience from my civic): HP+ bite a LOT harder then HPS. I have to use more pressure and pedal travel to accomplish the same amount of braking force when using the HPS compared to the HP+'s. I can easily overheat the HPS pads after 10 minutes on a tight mountain road; the HP+'s work all day on a race track at 20 minute sessions without overheating. Both produce quite a bit of dust, the HP+'s marginally more. The HP+'s don't eat through rotors very quickly as long as you get them bed in properly.

Really the single only advantage of HPS pads is the lack of sound. They don't make any noise, like all other street pads. The HP+'s on the other hand can embarrass you pulling up to a stop light with all the grinding and metal scraping noises they make. They don't make noises every stop and they aren't always loud, but it can be annoying especially in heavy stop-and-go traffic.

It really boils down to what is important to you. When my current HPS's are worn out they will be replaced with another set of HP+'s, I shouldn't have strayed from such a good thing. But, some people might not need that much performance and would prefer something more quiet. But, in my opinion HPS's aren't that much better then your standard Bendix pads that cost less then 1/2 as much.
