I was looking at autozone's site and it wants to know if I have a 1 piston caliper or a 2 piston caliper. How do I know what I have? any help would be appreciated.

On 2nd Gen Explorers (95 - 01), the fronts are 2 piston, the rears are 1 piston. I do not know if this changed for the 3rd gen. You can tell easily by looking at the caliper. The piston is a cylinder shape piece that pushes against the outboard brake pad - if you have 2, then it is 2 piston, if 1 then, well you know. :p: ;)

Gen3s are two front one rear.

This is good to know because I bought two piston pads for the front and I hope to change them tonight.

I also bought new "slippers", the stainless steel springs that my maintenance manual says should be changed with a pad change.
