Hello everybody. Just got started on this forum thing. I guess I'll start with my first tech question. I have yet to figure out the problem with my rear brakes in the rain, humid environments and after sitting for a while. Somebody please help me out. Also I have a set of four OEM '05 Saleen wheels that are on my truck now. THEY ARE FOR SALE. email: bubba.b@cox.net. Not sure yet how to put a pic in here.

rear brake grab

Lock up and grabbing at low speed when brakes are wet or humid atmosphere or not driven in a while.

Could be cheap pads.

You mean shoes? I've installed new shoes twice and hardware kits on both sides and had both drums turned and bled the system. No leaks from wheel seals. I was wondering if these vehicles had proportioning valves on the brake system and if they did, how common it was for them to malfunction. Other than that, I don't know what else to look for. My ears are still open for any ideas or suggestions. Thanx for your replies.

Are you sure that you have a 2000 explorer then? My ex is a 2000 XLS, one trim package lower than yours and it has disks with drum parking brakes inside the rear rotors.

I concur, probably cheap pads and rotors.

Does it just lock up and/or grab the first couple of times you apply them and then work OK after that, or does it do it every time? I had a ranger with rear drums that did that the first time you applied them each day, then they were fine for the rest of the day. I got that truck with 7000 miles on it and it was doing it then, and it was still doing it at 77000 miles when I sold it - still on the original shoes. If that's what yours is doing, I wouldn't worry about it much. I just got in the habit of hitting the brakes once or twice every morning before I left the driveway to get it out of the way.
