brake problem

my car has been makin grinding noises when i back up and sometimes drive. We took the left front wheel off and the brake caliper is grinding against the rim and making two grooves into the metal. can anybody tell me what i need to do to fix this problem? and what would cause this? thanks

Not sure what you mean, but it sounds like you have a sticking caliper or a bad flex line. This is assuming that you don't have worn out pads that are cutting the rotor.
 






the caliper is grinding on the inside of the rim... like the caliper shifted outboard and against the rim itself... just randomly started doing this. Makes horrible noises and almost impossible to go in reverse now. There is no grinding with the rotor.... the only thing that is grinding is the caliper on the inside of the rim.
 






Either the pin that the caliper floats on is stuck or the whole assembly loosened on you. If you take off the caliper and the mount it should be pretty obvious what happened.
 






found out that the upper carrier bolt has come loose and fallen off.... have to go to the dealership tomorrow and get a new one and apply lock tite this time
