The Explorer is going in tomorrow to be checked for the following problem but I wanted to see what the resident gurus here thought the problem may be...
When in drive from 0-10 MPH, a loud screetch/squeal/squeak/whatever comes from the rear end. It sounds like metal on metal.
When in reverse, it seems like the brakes are not releasing as the Explorer doesn't want to roll in reverse. However, giving it gas overcomes the lack of idle-motion.
After driving perhaps 2000 feet, the noise stops. However, when stopping and shutting down, then restarting and driving, the problem is there.
I think that the rear brakes don't want to disengage. However, I am not a mechanic, so I don't know. I'm leaving it up to the garage tomorrow to diagnose.
What do you think, fellas and ladies?
