under normal braking the explorer started to pull to the right. sounds like the right caliper is grabbing really hard. OR maybe the left one isnt doing what its supposed to?

i searched for ideas, and really couldnt get a firm answer in the threads i looked at. anyway here is something i pulled up, any feedback?

Classic symptom of a sticking caliper.

Would this sitll be true? I thought if it pulled while under heavy breaking it was because a caliper NOT working properly.

What I mean is, if it's pulling to the write, then is the driver side caliper not behaving correctly? There fore the passenger side caliper is braking more then the left?

I understand if he was just driving and it was still pulling.

I could be completely wrong, just my two cents.

if its pulling to the right it is most likely the right side caliper is sticking. which can be from a few things.. the caliper piston itself could be stuck out from the pads being wore down, the brake hose could be collapsing and not allowing the release of fluid from the caliper keeping the piston engaged longer than it should, or the slide pins could be need lubed causing the caliper not to slide away from the rotor after breaking.

first thing you need to do is pull the front wheels off and inspect your brakes, rotors, calipers, hoses, caliper guide pins.. give it a good look over

sorry i should have been more clear, it only pulls under normal braking. so i dont think its sticking, it seems like one may not be working.. i dunno. i will inspect them tomorrow. thanks for the fast reply!

I'd bet you have a caliper sticking, as in not working. It could be a front or a rear.
The guide pins could be frozen, or the caliper itself could be locked up.
Jack the car up and inspect all 4 corners, you'll find the culpret.

I would jack up the front wheels and support it with jack stands, spin the wheels one at a time and have a helper step on the brake pedal. I would guess the left wheel doesn't stop. I would check for a clogged brake line, try bleeding the brakes, if nothing comes out of one of the bleed screws you have found the clog.

well, i bled the brakes, and all are bleeding fine..
i also jacked up the front, spun both tires by hand while someone stepped on the brakes.. both stopped fine.
however i did notice a lot of play with the camber on the driver side.. so i think i need to replace the wheel bearing. could that cause it to pull while braking?

A bad bearing could cause a wheel to lock up during braking, but the car would pull towards the side with the bad bearing.

well, damn.. i guess i need to replace the bearing and then take the truck to a brake shop. *sigh*

...Have you checked your caliper bolts...I have seen them come loose before on the second gens...:dunno:

...JTSmith might be able to add some insight if this is the case...

i replaced the wheel bearing and the caliper. problem solved.

i think it was the guide pins.. the little boots had slipped up, and the pins were rusted and full of mud/dirt. i know the passenger one is the same, so i will take it off and clean/jube it this weekend. thansk for the the help
