I tried searching to see which direction the shoes on the rear drums of a 94 explorer are, but i had no luck. So my question is does the longer shoe go towards the front or the rear?

Thanks in advanced.

look at the other side, look where the one that is there currently goes....
if you already pulled it apart, then look to the orientation of the E brake connection, it is usually located towards the bottom of the drum

larger shoe is too rear.. i remember it with this sayin, "big back "big shoe to the back allways.

I can get very confusing if you do both sides at the same time.. I always do one side then the other that way you have something to reference.. Anyway the pic below shows how the drum components fit together.. The brake shoe adjuster with star wheel always has the long end pointed to the front of the vehicle (both driver's and pass sides).

Hmm.. I never thought of that. I just always lined up the hole and the star wheel. Cool - thanks for the information. Good picture as well, very nice looking.
