Brakes all of a sudden just went

Hi. I've posted a couple of times in the past on this forum and have gotten great information. My previous issue was transmission, which I got back out of shop on Monday (9/26/09). As I'm driving to work this morning, I hear a "pop". Not loud like a tire exploding or anything like that. As soon as i heard the "pop", the vehicle would stop only if I put the brake pedal to the floor. Pretty much no resistance depressing the pedal to the floor. I will say that the pads were beginning to grind, and recently the Brake light has been on pretty much all of the time. I want to say the "pop" came from the passenger side of the vehicle, but not sure. Any ideas? I've been looking through the forums, but there is just so much information here.

I'd like to resolve this this weekend. Any help is much appreciated.

Sounds like you need a brake overhaul. Sounds like multiple problems. Check for leaks, if you dont find any its probably your master cylinder. Couple how to vids in the link in my signature if you wanna check em out.

Check the brakelines as well... known to corrode and blow out at very bad moments.

Yes, check the metal line across the rear axel, and the long line that runs from the front to the back. Those are the lines that usually go first.

Thanks to all who responded. I have an update that may narrow down the issue.

Over the weekend I was taking a visual of the area around the passenger side front tire. I immediately notice that the wheel is covered in some sort of bronze-ish looking substance. Upon seeing this, it confirmed (I think) two things in my mind. First, not master cylinder (isn't that located on the driver side?). Second, the "pop" I heard definitely came from the passenger side front. While I haven't had the time to take the wheel off and inspect further, I can only assume that it's probably a brake line that weakened enough to "pop". Am I wrong in my analysis?

If it's in the right front area, it could be one of 3 things: brake caliper, brake flex line, or the metal line going into the flex line. It should be pretty easy to identify where the leak is once the wheel is off.

It really is this simple: Look for the puddle and follow the trail back to the source. You might have to get on your hands and knees to find it though....
