Brakes From Hell!!!

Hello all, I have a 1992 Explorer Sport that is pretty much stock. My problem is front brakes!!! I just went through my first set since I changed them and it took me 3 sets to get a pair that the outer pad doesn't fall out..... now I did them again on Sunday and today on the way to work the outside driverside pad fell out once again....that stupid metal clip snaps and falls out....I can't win and i'm about ready to just junk this truck!!! Any ideas anyone????

How exactly is the outer pad falling off? Do you hear a noise and feel something and pull over or what? Does the pad fall completely off or just the tabs? How are the caliper slide pins, and did you use new ones? They will degrade over time and can cause the caliper to fit too loosely.

THe calipar pins are replaced everytime I do the brakes. I'll apply the brakes, and all I hear is a snap and the clip on the outer pad, brakes and the pad flys out of the truck and then its calipar to rotor contact. It makes no sense to me....i've never seen this before.....

Are the calipers new? Something is not right.
You dont need to replace slide pins every time you do the brakes, just if they are worn.

When installed properly it should be impossible for a pad to fall out, pretty much impossible for the caliper or pads to come out in fact.

Something is a miss...

Can you get a picture of your caliper loaded on the rotor?

Do you have a pic of what your calipers and pads look like? I've never had this problem and have replaced the pads several times... The pads are held in the caliper very tightly via the pad backing clip and tabs.

Ya, everything was replaced last time I did the brakes....calipars,rotors pads,pins, and I just changed the pads this time and the pins cause there only like 10 bucks....just for some reason the damn tab on the pad snaps and the pad flys out....everything goes back together and comes apart smooth, so I don't understand....i've had a F250 with a 6in lift and 38s, and it still had no brake problems....this truck has 31's and no lift at all...maybe I should change the calipers again??? sorry my camera is broke so I can't get any pics.....

They might have used the wrong calipers, or the calipers they used are toasted.
There is no way in hell the front pad should be able to come out of the caliper, even if the caliper was off the rotor.
The metal tabs on the front pad hold it in place and the spring metal clip wont let them slide out of place.

Are you just pushing the Pads down over the Caliper or are you stressing the hell out of that Pad Clip? You don't need to pull way back on those clips to get the Pads down in the Caliper.

If I reading this correctly you indicate you do the job correctly, but sometime down the road the metal backing clip on the pad snaps off causing your pad to slip... Weird Are you running custom rims or have funky backspacing?

....well last night I changed the pads and calipers....so far so good. I guess maybe the calipers were bad??? Who knows, but i've never ever seen this problem....well if it happens again, i'll let you all know..
