I was driving last week and had to press my brakes harder than normal, however they did not lock up. After, a horrible sound started coming from my front left wheel. This sound was constant for about 10 miles and then went away. Yesterday I was driving and I tapped my brake and they locked up, this followed with some terrible noises again which have now gone away and the brakes have not locked up since yesterday nor are they making any noise. Any suggestions?

I took the wheel off and the dust shield had ripped off and must have gotten stuck between the pad and the rotor. Problem solved. Thank you for your help!

Glad it was a simple, easy fix. Cheap, flimsy sheet metal. Hopefully you re-used or just removed it.

FRONT dust shields are long discontinued and usually found only at salvage yards or on line used..

Its toast.

Some of those used steel rivets to hold them on. I've tried to remove a couple of them from a 2002ish Crown Vic, and it was a tough rivet. I've skipped them before, they don't do much.
