OK, I looked around with no luck so, I'm going to ask now...
97 X Has new brakes and rotors all the way around. All new brake fluid too. I completely flushed them. Rear calibers are new also.

Now Here the problem.. Brake are dragging. No, its not the brake stuck in the mounts or the pin's froze. I checked all that over till I was sure.. front calibers checked to make sure the moved with ease in and out. What I can't figure out is, when I drive it and they start to get hot, I come back and jack it up all the way around & there all tight. Really the front. I can open a bleeder and the all come loose again!?!?

You guys think it could be the ABS? or the master cylinder? Not letting the pressure off? When I open the bleeder it doesn't squirt out, it just comes out the bleeder a 1/8 in the goes to nothing?

What the odds of the brake hoses on both front making it do this? I'm up in arms about this. :dunno:

Thanks for the help to the people that answer.. :D:thumbsup:

Wow my 99 does the same thing except the brakes will stop dragging if i pump them a couple times real hard. I always thought it was just rubber brake lines expanding and just slowin the fluid down or something. Meneke or however you spell it say theres nothing wrong with the brakes at all. Maybe there is a problem? (its wayy to cold for me to go look at them myself lol liow teens at night mid 20s in the day)

HAHA wish mine were that way LOL. I know what you mean about the cold. Were getting your cold this week.. Brrrr.

I'd say master cylinder before anything else, but it could be something in the ABS unit as well. I wouldnt think it has anythign to do with the lines unless there is one pinched shut of bent over or something like that, and you said you flushed all the brake fluid out, so I wouldnt think there is one clogged or anything. Mayeb someone else has some idea, but yeah I'd say master cylinder.

I was thinking the same. I had the ABS pump fuse out and still the same. It's never see off road to get a pinched line, YET lol. Thanks for your reply.

anybody else had this problem?

To the original poster, I would say the master cylinder. The piston is likely not returning fully, blocking the compensating port on that circuit. If it doesn't clear the compensating port, and the fluid begins to warm up, when it expands, it will squeeze the brakes instead of flowing back into the reservoir.

Is your brake pedal returning fully when you release it? Is it properly adjusted? Has the booster been replaced recently?

Yeah, it's comming back all the way. No gap in the pedal. U hit it and it's right there. No the booster hasn't. Thanks for you help too!

Definately sounds like the M/C is not releasing. Replace it, bleed the system real good and you should be fine.

Update.. Well I swapped a used one from from a wrecked one my Buddie had. That way I wasn't out any money if it wasn't it. Plus, I didn't have to swap all the stuff over and bleed it too. Works just fine.. I did notice that my old one didn't leak any brake fluid out at all. Not even tilted to the side. Must of been stuck after all. Thanks a lot guys, really appreciate it!

Classic symptoms... either it wasn't returning fully, or the compensating ports were somehow obstructed. If both ports were plugged (i.e. neither nipple leaked) then it's likely the piston wasn't fully returning.

Glad it's working!

Just an FYI...if you mistakenly install a rear drum brake master cylinder on a rear disk car, this is the symptom you will get. The residual check valve in the m/c will hold enough pressure in the calipers to drag the brakes. In fact, when I first read this I figured that was the problem until I saw he hadn't replaced it.

HAHA No, it was the original one. I thought I had enough info on there but, you never really do. LOL. Thanks!

Hey what year is your cobra!
