1994 Explorer XLT
Hey guys,

I have a 1994 Stock Explorer XLT. 112,000 miles. I have a couple of issues that I was hoping someone could help me with.

1. I replaced the brake pads about a month ago. The rotor on one side already has grooves on the back side but my father said not to worry about it as it is just a college car. Recently, when I begin braking, the car veers to the right. However, if I SLAM on the brakes, the car stops straight. Any ideas?

2. When I reach 65mph the car gets kind of rough, but then any speed before that or after that, its decently smooth.

I really appreciate any consideration you might give my problems. Thanks!!

I am having the same problem right now, with the truck pulling to the right. Check out the Radius arm (control arm) bushings. If you do a search on those bushings you will see alot of the same people having the same problem and it ends up being those.
Just an Idea

That 65mph vibration is normal and pretty much any 1st gen(91-94) does this vibration, I have been trying to figure it out for years but I think it has to do with the rear end from the factory. As for your brakes I would say that its most likely because of the grooves in the rotor that you get that veering, or like said above it maybe a sticky/stuck piston on your caliper.

I had some problems like KridVT on my old 94 ex. It was the passenger side radius arm bushings that was causing it. I also had to replace the radius arm cross member ( think that was what ford called it) it was about 60 bucks (canadian) for the cross member. It stopped pulling to the right after that was fixed. However with your brakes being in the condition that they are that might also be causing your problems

Sounds like a sticking caliper to me. I'd change that out immediately. Probably the rotor too.
