'98 Explorer - Breaking trouble...need help
Hi everyone, I'm new to the group, so go easy on me!
anyways I drive a 98 Explorer XLT 4.0L V6 EFI SOHC 117,000 miles (pictures below) This is my second Explorer and I'll prabably buy a third once this one has expired.
I have performed a search on this but could not find any specific details. I have had this off the road for a few months and I have recently put it back on the road, but I now have a small laundry list of things I need to get done. 1st is with my breaks. I have noticed that while driving down the road, and hitting the breaks, I get a vibrating noise followed by a noise which sounds like a "spring stretching" sound and then I loose break pressure! After Further inspection of the breaks I noticed that the rear rotors were rusted from sitting so I bought new rotors & Pads for the rear. After getting the assembly all apart, the emergency break pads (inside the rotors) were all wore out and practically fell all apart, so I replaced these also.
Once I got it all back together I test drove it and it was alot smoother breaking but just before the truck came to a complete stop the "spring stretching" noise happened and the break pressure droped again. Although this is an improvement on the breaking, it is still a problem. Anyone ever have this problem or can guide me in the right direction to figuring this one out?
I wonder if the breaks need to be bled? maybe the fromt needs to be looked at too? I want to avoid taking it to a garage cause I dont trust them and they will want to fix other things that they might find and charge me an arm & leg in labor!
The other things on my list of things to fix are the electric door locks which mysteriously stoped working (although the button way back in the hatch seems to work)
rear windshield wiper has a leaking hose and the wiper is having the typical explorer problem of not cleaning the middle section of the rear windshield.
I need to fix the drivers seat reclining latch which broke off. I think I'll have that done with the recall notice I have.
If anyone who would have any info on these items please respond, I'd appreciate it!
