a couple days ago the gas gauge did not jump into position like it usually does. it took about 45 minutes to show what was in the tank. i was wondering if any one has had the same problem and if they were able to fix it.

This isn't much help but it could be a gauge or sending unit.

The sending unit float probably has a pinhole in it, and it is filling up with gas. My Ranger has the same problem (Well, used to. The gauge doesn't work at all, now). I don't know if you can buy the float seperately for the Explorer, but for the Ranger I would have to buy the whole fuel pump/sending unit assembly, which is around $100.

thankyou for the help guys i proably take it to a ford dealership and see what they say

when it takes a long time for the needle to go up, it meant that you left your engine on while filling it.

better start setting your trip-odometer, and following your milage. Mine stopped working about 2 years ago, keep an eye on your miles and fill up everytime you get gas.

it happened when i started my car and there was a pause in it starting like a broker fuse or some thing. no i never leave the car on when filling
