Broken Rod Replacement

Water and oil mixed turn kind of like a mocha cream color. It doesn't resemble oil at all. I guess the high rev could have caused the problem, but you would know if you had water in your oil. At least you would if their was enough water in their to keep the oil from lubricating. I would pull the valve covers first and go from their.

Yup.. that's exactly what the oil looks like.

Yea I may do that first... but would I be able to see down into the block to see if it were a rod?

no, but you would see the rockers and pushrods if you pull the valve cover.

You could pull the spark plugs and put a brand new #2 pensil in each plug hole. You should see all the pensils going up and down as you turn the crank with a hand and if one is not moving, that would be your broken rod.

Good idea. I always forget about going through the spark plug holes to see the pistons. Sure beats ripping the heads off and all that mess that goes with it.

I decided to just take it somewhere and have them pull it for me, it'll cost $750ish for the pull and then another $2000 for a rebuild.

Did you confirm the broken rod?

No, I took a look and I don't think I have the skill or time to take the heads off and start diagnosing it. Once the engine is pulled, I'm going to drop it off to a guy who's going to rebuild for me.

So your pulling the engine yourself? If you can do that, you should be able to stick a pencil in a spark plug hole. I would at least get it diagnosed before I pulled the engine. :dunno:

No, I'm having someone pull it also. What ever the problem is, it's going to require tearing the engine apart to fix... so I figure spend a little extra and rebuild the whole thing.
