I've been pouring over the schematics today, and I have an idea about the brown wire mod. From what I gather from schematics for my '98, there are two brown wires that feed the coil on the transfer case: One comes from the TOD relay, and one comes from the Transfer Case Shift Relay and they meet at splice 249. If I'm looking at it correctly, and I put the switch in between the TOD relay and its junction with the brown wire from the TCS relay, I think shifting the truck into 4 hi should still allow the coil to engage the transfer case, no?
(i.e. can I still shift into 4 hi without remembering to flip the switch I installed back on?)
If that works, that's the way I want to wire her up. That should (finally after 7 years of annoying Control-Trac!!) give me 2wd, 4wd, and 4 low most of the time, and the switch will turn the Control Trac in 2wd mode.
For those of you that have done the mod, please mention EXACTLY where you cut the wire to splice in the switch.
Thanks, gang!
