ok i did the brown wire mod a few weeks back and it worked great, then tonight a friend and i went down this trail and i had to drive into a ditch to get out, and my back end bottomed out...(gotta love the mono-leaf). when i tried to shift into 4wd it would not. this is the second time that it has stopped woking. the first time i took the shift motor apart. but that little washer on the gear was intact so that is not the porblem. after i put the motor back together and back on the x the 4wd started to work again...but now when i needed it, it did not ingage. has anyone else had a similar problem??
thanks
Davis

It won't be the shift motor as the motor is only used to engage the planetary set for low range.

Depending on where you broke the brown wire, you'll want to check for power downstream of it. A 12-volt test light should be all you need. Turn the key on, engage the 4x4. Check for power coming into the switch, then going out of the switch back to the brown wire. Then check the connector on the transfer case where the brown wire goes in. (Should be the same plug as on the shift motor, just the brown wire). If you've got power getting to the connector, check for continuity between the terminal on the plug on the transfer case and ground. If you've got power to it and continuity through it, it's just not working. Time to tear apart the transfer case.

I'd put my money on a bad connection on the brown wire though.... one of the connections you made probably took a dive.

awsome...thats what i was thinking...but i wanted to get a second opinon before i go and take my dash apart again...

99stocksport,
The lesson learned there is to engage 4wd BEFORE you hit the rough stuff.
