Ok so i decided to do the Brown wire mod on my 97 sport ohv 5spd w the control trac 4wd.

I found the wire and clipped it and due to my limited electrical abilities i tried to wire the switch up. i thought i had it hooked up but i don't see it lighting up at all and it won't go into 4wd automatically now.. it might not at all.. i can spin the tires and the front wont engage.

I purchased a plain old 3 prong switch from wally world that is a 2 position with a little light on it. The 3 posts say Supply, Load, and earth. To me this makes me think i should hook up the bottom wire to the supply and the other wire to the load? earth i haven't a clue... thought it was ground but i dont know waht to do..

basically i am asking how to hook up a simple switch! do i need to also run a ground wire or do i need to somehow runa power wire to it or do i need to get a different switch.. this is the first switch that i have ever hooked up ... i know i am a dope but any help is good!

Thanks guys..... forgive my ignorance!
can't wait to get to my SAS... haha maybe someday!

Run a ground wire to the earth, plug the positive one to the supply, and the other to load. Most people will say that you need a realy to do this, but as long as the wire is thick enough and the switch is rated high enough, you should be fine. (I don't run a relay for my BWM)

i think the switch is a 15 amp
So the positive one would be the lower part of the clipped portion? I think ?

Thanks for the response! i was a little worried.. i have my dash all tore apart right now till its fixed

Ill try this tonight

kert i dig your ex man... nice... you like the truxus mt's? how do they hold up mileage wise as well?

Ya, I really like the tires. They are the best mud tire for snow/Ice that I have found. The only bad thing is they take a few weights to get them balanced up right, but once they are, they work fine. As for wear, they have 5 wear levels on the tires, I have about 20k on them and they still have about 3.5 bars left, which is pretty good for a mud tire. There is a little bit of road noise too, but it isn't bad.

Put the wires back together that you clipped and ensure that the 4wd works properly again. After thats been confirmed then try the BWM again. If it doesnt work, get a VOM and check for voltage at the BW when 4HI is activated.

sweet!

Ok guys i thank you so much for the advice and help. I am still learning alot and i really appreciate all the help and advice from you guys.

anyways on to the mod.

I checked it like izwhack said and made sure i still had 4x4 and i did but in the process i found that i had a bad connection in one of my connectors to the source wire.
Reconnected the source and ran a ground wire and used both of your advice together and now i got it all buttoned up. 2wd and 4wd.

Thanks guys... on to the next thing.. and the next ... this is kind of addicting!
