Ive been doing some searching and every gaurd i have found has (Excluding Limited):( Anyone know why this is? Is it something to do with my front bumper or is it because of tow hooks? Anyone? Please explain.
Thanks

It's the Bumper.

The XL/XLT Explorer has a standard Chrome Bumper, nothing fancy.

The Limited Explorer has a Color Matched Bumper/AirDam assembly that is all molded together. It hangs down a little more than the XL/XLT Bumper, which would interfere with the bracket that curves down around the bottom of the bumper as it bolts to the frame.

If you are willing to cut a couple 'slots' into your Limited Bumper, you would be fine.

Yea i wouldnt have a problem with that. But are the other bumpers interchangable with mine? If so i would rather go that route

The Limited Bumper is one of the most sought after piece out there.

The XL/XLT bumpers bolt right up to your Limited. But I would just modify the one you have, just to be different.

I just put a bumper from a Ford Explorer Limited on my 91 XL it look great, but there is a space between the bumper and the the piece on metal under the lights.I see on yours it's flush with no space. So where would the slots be cut.

How did you put your bumper on with no space under the pice below the lights

I actually found a steal on a 01 brush guard for my 92 Explorer. Granted, mine's not limited, but we were able to get the new one on in about an hour and a half.
We just put slotted holes in the brackets and then slid it out until it lined up. The chain lift helped a lot. The two little tabs on it just need to grab into something to prevent the guard from pulling out in the event something happens.
We just heated the tabs with a torch and bent them until they had the right angle we needed to mount to the bumper. We put stainless bushings under the tabs then so we could bolt them in and keep them straight. I will post pics when I can but if you can get a good deal on a grill guard that isn't for your exact trim/yr range it will still be close enough to make it work with a little extra tweaking. The only thing that really matters is side to side and top to bottom clearance.
Good luck!

Why don't you just use the stock limited edition brush guard? Don't hafta cut up your plastic either.

How well does an 01 push guard fit a first gen? Anyone have pics?

Pics?Or where to find one?

They're pretty hard to find but I see them every now and then on ebay.de

That is probably the ugliest thing I have ever seen in my life.

Here is a brush guard for an 01 that I got $150 new in the box (thank you Craigslist.) Sorry for the terrible cell phone pic but we put it on in about an hour and a half. We just had to slot out the brackets at the frame to mount it properly. We also heated and bent the tabs that are supposed to go in between the bumper and grill and just bolted them right into the bumper using stainless bushings for spacers.
Granted I won't be pushing trees over with it but it fits quite well until I make my new front bumper. It clears perfect top to bottom and side to side.

fixed your image link, thanks for the pic. I guess if that fits, I might pick up a police push guard until I get a custom bumper made up...

edit: guess you changed to a link

Thanks for fixing it. That was the first image I've tried to include.
I was actually surprised how well installing it went. I just measured clearance to make sure but I think that the newer Xs are a little bigger than ours at the front so there was plenty of room.

I have NEVER seen that grill guard for sale (the one shown on the Red Limited)....I was always under the impression that the Grill Guard shown was never put into production....Just like they never made a 1st Gen Limited in Red!..

Look at the headlamps closer....those are Glass Halogen Bulb housings, similar to the 83-88 Ranger/BII...not the plastic housing/9004 Halogen bulb that was actually used in production.

IIRC, Those headlights were used in Europe on the first gens. Look at the shape of the front "license plate".

Not nearly as ugly as some of the other options it could have come with . like the red interiors , ewwwwww lol

The 1st Gen wasn't Exported....it wasn't until the 96 or so, after they went OBD-II that they were exported, and they had Amber in the Rear Lenses...
