Hey guys,

On my transmission, when I check it via the dip stick, the level, color, and odor is right. However there are just little bubbles on the dip stick in the fluid. The Transmission shifts and operates just how it suppose to.

BTW this is a '95 jeep grand cherokee, but the transmission in concept and principle should be no different from explorers' transmission.

The jeep has 200k on the ticker, the transmission was rebuilt at 130k

Maybe I'll post a picture too.

There is nothing wrong with the transmission, but I have just never seen bubbles on the dip stick on any other cars and trucks I have checked.

This jeep has been in the family since new, but I have not always been the one that maintained it so I do not know if the dip stick always looked like this in the past.

Any clues? Is this acceptable? Have you transmission experts seen this before on a correctly working transmission? Thanks.

You will probably have better luck on a jeep forum with your question. My personal experience is my 5r55e and Mercon V (which is a Ford fluid) has never shown signs of foaming. Since I know nothing about your tranny, the fluid it takes, or the condition it's in I really cannot provide much assistance. Besides as long as it's color is good and it doesn't smell burnt then I would say it sounds like there are no problems.

So I guess this was just a long winded bump :dunno: sorry...

Generally bubbles are a sign of aeration, normally from over filling.
could also be a plugged breather increasing case pressure, or possibly the wrong type of fluid for the trans.

hmm, okay thanks. Unlike my explorer, I know nothing about the jeep trans. I am well acquainted here at explorer forums so I just thought I would throw it up in here before I went over to find a Jeep forum. Thanks.

If you've replaced the pickup filter you might have put in one that isn't sealing properly causing it to suck up air. If you notice a whistling noise while accelerating, replace that filter.
