Lets "build", hypothetically, a V6 SOHC, for best fuel milage.

Please list, in your opinion, the best bolt on ( eg, KKM filter ) items that will improve milage, Also such items as exhaust systems; gears, tires, etc.

Then list internal modifications that will improve fuel efficiency.

Thanks…

hmm

Sorry I'm no help but wanted to jump on the thread to listen. I'm doing the opposite--I'm adding output while attempting to maintain current milage not increase milage.

Good luck I hope you get some interesting results.

Good luck...

Here is my experience....good luck. Best off to just enjoy your Ex for what it is....a great truck that gets really crappy mileage.

Stock, 15.5 to 16.5 mpg combined
Added KKM True Rev, 15.5 to 16.5 mpg combined, no gain felt.
Added Borla Cat-Back, 15.5 to 16.5 mpg combined, no gain felt.
Added 33" BFG KO's, 15.5 to 16.5 mpg combined, loss of low end, obviously.
Added Bosch +4's, 15.5 to 16.5 mpg combined, no gain felt.
Added Hotter T-Stat, 15.5 to 16.5mpg combined, no gain felt.

Winter, 15.0 to 16.0 mpg
Summer, 15.5 to 16.5 mpg

City Driving, 16.0 mpg
Highway Driving, Mountains, 15.5 mpg
Highway Driving, Mountains and Headwind, 15.5 mpg
Highway Driving, Flat, 16.5 mpg

Wow…. It seems like you have spent a substantial amount of money for no net gain in economy. I certainally hope you gained in performance in other areas; you didn’t mention power increase, etc.

I have had much better results with my 99 V6 SOHC:
Stock milage ( all data is for 70-80 mph highway ( flat ) running.) = 17.3 ( average )
KKM system and full synthetic ( Mobil 1 ) fluids = 21.4
Custom cat back with 2 ½" pipe = 22.9

Satisfied? NO way, I want more,

Input requested.

An honest man!

I too have made performance changes with no real noticable results. I think the best performance mod so far was the K&N filter and Flowmaster exhaust. The best milage increase came from increasing the air pressure in the tires (25 to 30 PSI). I truly believe that you need to go to a larger Camm and Head modifications to wake up the OHV 4L. Worst mod--MSD ignition--$400. Yikes!

The motor in question is a 4.0 SOHC model, not the OHV model.
