Bulldog remote start

i found mine for my 92 XL at walmart for $40 actually! i did NOT use the harness because that would have almost doubled the price (and walmart didn't carry them) and it wasn't really a problem installing it. if you know how to use a multi-meter its cake and if you don't now is a good time to learn! the instructions weren't quite right with mine, thus the need for the multi-meter. however i'm quite happy with the results of it!

What do you guys mean by "work with the factory remote"?

from what i can tell on the website it means that the factory remote will activate the remote start.

with my bulldog starter, i just use the transmitter that came with the starter. it has 4 buttons: start, stop, lock/unlock, and trunk. obviously trunk isn't used, and the lock/unlock button would require me to buy something else to hook up to the starting unit. more $$$. and after all that, i still would have no panic button unless i used the factory transmitter too, so whats the difference, i just use both.

I don't want anyone reading this thread to get confused about whatever they mean by it working with the factory remote. My factory remote does not have a "start" or a "stop" button on it to activate the remote starter and when the X is running the factory remote door locks are disabled. So I still don't know what they mean but I agree with alphabets13 and just carry the two keyfobs.

as taken from www.bulldogsecurity.com

(Model RS85 Only) Start Using the remote included in this kit: Press and release Button #1. Using your factory keyless entry remote: Press the Lock button three times. Using Aftermarket Alarm: Press the second channel button on your remote transmitter.
Stop

one thing i noticed with my remote starter is that i have to use my factory remote to open the doors first then use the sarter remote to sart the truck. for some reason my doors won't open when the truck is started first unless i press the unlock button like ten times  no big deal though.

Good pull! If I had read that I would have bought that model.

Well it did not come in the mail today, I am hoping for tomorrow so that I can do the project on Wednesday

Did you get the RS85i? If so once you get it installed, i was wondering how far away you can start it with the factory remote?

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks

Have not gotten yet - going to call company monday and see what is taking so long.

I got the RS85i, 791 and T Harness installed using the "Tachless" option. If I hit lock 3 times w/ the factory remote the car cranks and cranks and cranks w/ no start. (Starts right up w/ key)I am going to try the tach hook up tomorrow.

It says to hook the tach wire to the negative off of the coil or coil pack, so now I'm a little lost.

Any suggestions?

I'm thinking that if it cranks and cranks and cranks that the tach hook up won't help. Sounds like maybe the 791 needs to be closer to the ignition maybe? Shoot bulldog an email if that doesn't work. Good luck, keep us posted.

I get it to start in "tachless" mode, but the starter still turns constantly. (You know thats gotta be good for it  )
I cannot find the correct wire from the coil pack to attach to for "tach" mode.

here's a question and answer from the bulldog site.

"Q3: Remote starter keeps grinding the starter after activation, when the unit is programmed for tach or tachless mode.

A: 1. Wire are not in the correct order in the 3 pin harness

A: 2. Relay pack is improperly wired."

Did you try this?

FORD EXPLORER 2001
WIRE COLORS LOCATION
TACH SENSOR TAN/YEL (-) COIL

FORD EXPLORER 2001
WIRE COLORS LOCATION
TACH SENSOR TAN/YEL (-) COIL

This does not match anything off of either coil.

well mine came in the mail today - to bad I will have to wait until the weekend to put it in.

I got the RS85i installed and working w/ help from their tech dept.
One last thing doesn't work - When I start the car remotely (with factory Ford or Bulldog), the factory remote is then inoperable. I emailed the tech dept about this. The guys response - "You must have a Ford. If you will notice, when you start your vehicle with the key, the remote no longer works. All we can do is duplicate what the remote normally does."

Well, thats crap. There should have been some disclaimer stating that. I wouldn't have bought this then.

When the factory Ford remote is used to start (Lock 3 times), the only thing that can be done is to unlock the door with the key, get in and either put foot on brake to stop or put key in ignition to drive away. There is no remote unlock, lock, panic or stop, with the factory Ford remote once started. There is only start and stop with the Bulldog remote.

If you want something better, do NOT buy the RS85i.

When our fords are running the remote is disabled, that's why I got the 1100 model. So I could hook up the door locks and just carry the one bulldog remote.
