My A/C was working fine last Friday, as in really ice cold. Then on Saturday the burning smell started in the engine bay along with a bad noise when the A/C is turned on. The cooling is reduced to almost nothing now. Does this sound like the bearings going bad on the compressor? I get a Ford employee discount on parts and labor so I need to know if the compressor needs to be replaced or if it's something else.

It's July in North Texas so not having A/C is NOT an option.

The compressor seized, should know what my total is when I pick it up. I think it's close to $900. Is it common for these to fail so catastrophically?

theres a brand new one on ebay for 210 and shipping but if your old ond scattered,, your going to need cleaning, flush and prob reciever driertoo.
