I am planning on getting a class II hitch and am entering new turf...I would love any advice/tips on what to look for, avoid... etc and avoid some pitfalls that I am sure to encounter. I plan on towing a utility trailer and maybe a small camper trailer some time.

Ideas on brands, style, installation, wiring and harnesses would be GREATLY appreciated.
thanks all

if you are going to get a hitch go straight past a class 2 and get atleast a 3 or 4 reese is awalys a good brand, as well as hidden hitch

if your trailer has breaks be sure to get a good controler, and if you dont know how to instally it dot try it yourself and just have a good shop do it, breaks are nothing to mess around with

Hidden Hitch

I bought a Hidden hitch from Burnaby Hitch. The people there are very helpful. The receiver accepts a 2 inch draw bar and lets me use a bike rack that will hold five bikes. They also sold me a wiring harness that just plugs in.

I too would recommend a class 3 hitch.

I have always had good luck with hidden hitch brand.

Get a class III hidden hitch. You won't be disappointed.

Go with the hidden. They look the best out of all available and are class III. Dont waste your money on a class II.

tranny cooler

I suppose I should consider a tranny cooler...types/tips/install ?

That depends on how often you actually plan to tow. If only occasionally, you probably don't need it.

a tranny cooler can be had for around 50 bucks and is a good investment if you EVER plan on putting a load on your truck as the tranny is the weak spot. 50 bucks for a little pice of mind is a great investment.

check out www.summitracing.com for good prices.

they are easy to install and come with instructions.

Basically I am looking at dump trips...home depot....etc and maybe the odd trip with a tent trailer.

best prices i've found are at

www.etrailer.com
good luck, i would also have to say hidden hitch class 3 tub or square whatever u like

A cool tranny is a happy tranny; get one.

double checking....

I did a quick check on the tow capacity....5640lbs with the sohc 4x4 and 3.73....is this right? Any other prep i should be thinking about (aux. tranny cooler etc) before I get too far/
thanks.

PS I decided on the hidden hitch class III # 70647

Put a tranny cooler on it. It should already have one built into the radiator, but you can never have too cold a tranny. ;) Get a big aftermarket one and plumb it in-line with the stocker.

Fraserway RV in Abbotsford has them posted for 193 (cdn)...I am going to check in Kamloops as well ( being in Merrrit you do have to shop around via phone/internet) then the Lordco here generally meets prices...

PS Heyok, thanks for the heads up on the Burnaby Hitch!

I got mine 4 years ago at www.bageco.com Price at that time was the best I could find and they have all the plug & play wiring and other accessories. Check them out. I got a hidden hitch tube style and it fits with the 16 inch spare.

Grood luck!

Tranny Cooler

I have heard that tru-cool is a good brand. I am thinking of installing one on my Odyssey as the Exploder already came with one. :chug: Tru-Cool on Ebay
