Ok so long story short I got a speeding ticket.. there is a company in richmond does speedometer calibration they said $50 for 2wd $80 for awd,, could I do the brown wire mod and save 30 bucks here?
I know it's off since I've put on the bigger tires so that should help ease the blow was a 71/55 about to go up a huge hill recalibrating should knock off about 5 miles per hour

That was kinda my thought they're still have to be some power going to the front end...

Normally its 5 percent going to the front unless the front wheels and rear wheels are measured as turning different speeds, then the auto 4wd kicks on and steps up the power to the front in increments. On a 4wd dyno its fine but if its on a 2wd dyno with the BWM there will be a lot of slippage in the tcase clutches I would think. Prob not the best thing. With the front driveshaft removed it will at least let the transfer case work as designed without worrying about the front wheels being turned. The amount of power transfer shouldn't matter either way since the speedo gets its info from the rear drivetrain.

in 4th gen. it is enough to remove the ABS fuse to disable 4x4 auto and make it 2wd

I wonder if this would do the same to 3rd Gen

The Electrician is correct. (thanks for that info by the way, made summer with blown ABS sensors way easier to deal with). I pulled fuse number 5 from the box under the hood of my 05, it disabled the ABS as well as all auto 4x4 functions. It will however allow you to select 4HI/4LO and still have four wheel drive.

would pulling the fuse be safer than the bwm?

You can't cut the wrong wire. Thats one hige plus. And in my 05 I couldn't find the right wire either. As far as better, it seems to totally disrupt the entire auto feature, so I'm assuming it makes it behave just like a true part time system. Not sure about wether there would still be issues with t-case clutches or not. I did this because my ABS sensors were shot and the auto 4x4 kept kicking in on dry pavement all the time. I pulled that fuse out and I could spin the rear tires at will with a little massage of the go pedal.

I agree Cozmik, inaddition this the way I use when ever I would like to have 2wd even with dyno
