The Ford Explorer is gone and I feel relieved. Never quite felt that way before on any trade ins but this car has been a nightmare from the get go.

Sure bells and whistles and the overall look are cool. Bad sadly, it lacks severely in its build, fit and finish... Just too many things to list.

Yes maybe I am very particular about cars or maybe I should not have expected much.
One thing for sure is I won't be buying another Ford in the near future!

I am sure many folks are happy with their Explorer which is great, but I am sure many also wish it was gone or at least are keeping one eye open for something else.

Good luck folks and thanks for your help on the forum.

What did you get into?

Having traded in a 2011 MY under Lemon Law I know what your referring too.

Its too bad you didnt get to experience a 13-14MY because most of the issues are resolved.

Let us all know when you find a perfect car/truck/SUV.

On a forum like this you will always get more positive comments than negative as the displeased typically move on to something else. Buying the first year or two of a new model is always a risk as they usually do not have the bugs worked out.

Right now I have towed the EX more miles behind my motor home than I have driven it. Tows well and drives well, but I can not comment on reliability as I have not driven it enough yet.

How did the trade in go? Did they treat the Ex as a 'problem vehicle' or
all smiles and compliments?

I have not a problem in 49k miles!

I have the same issues with my 2013...granted no power steering issues, no burnt smell during hard acceleration but TONNEs of fit and finish issues...and now my damn SUNROOF does not work..I am waiting for the Customer Service rep from Ford to call me (did I mention that they are totally useless - I told Bianca (the Canadian Crystal) to tell her to call me 1 week ago..as STILL NO call.....Bianca thanks for your support but your counterparts that you guys escalate dont seem to care..really..its my own assessment and I have been more than patient.

Fuse #8 in the fuse box in the engine compartment is for the MOONROOF. Have you checked it?

Truth is, they ALL have problems--American, foreign, all!

Some people swear by a make, others swear at it... I was strictly a "Toyota guy" for many years--until I started having problems with my wife's corolla. I got 160k from one corolla and got $3500 at trade in! But my wife's was not the same... Many "uncharacteristic" issues that were the result of poor design, poor build quality, etc...

So get something you are happy with---Because sooner or later you WILL have a problem. Doesn't matter who made it. Cars are so complicated now with such high expectations, I predict you will be disappointed again....

Have fun!

They all have their issues, but this refers to people also.... Maybe a good 80-100K Mercedes or BMW will help you sleep at night.

BMW and Mercedes have issues too. We helped my Mother in Law buy a 2014 428, it is a month old, and it has an appointment at the dealership. The drivers side door creaks like an old wood floor. Then move to the moonroof, it leaks! So all manufacturers will have some issue at some point in time.

I hope that whatever vehicle anyone has, brings them driving pleasure.

I've owned lots of cars and all I am simply saying is the explorer and ford has been my worst experience. I've been thru all the usual tsb's which is fine... Let's put that down to 2011 model. But, outside of that, I think the general build quality and design is not good.

Without listing all of my gripes I just found the passenger side door leather or synthetic leather had started to detach from where it was glued on to. Left fender sticks out, passenger door not level even when realigned, window seals look like they have been cut by hand to fit the windows, window blinker chime has changed sound, bubbled paint under roof rails, tail gate alignment... Don't get me started, tires seem to be going brown, heavy torque steer under hard accel, gaps all over the car and some wierd aero dynamics seems to make this car attract dirt in the strangest of places. I could go on to be picky if not already... Anyway just not happy so it had to go.

Oh and just one last add... I don't like having potential power steering failures looming over my head or my wife for that matter.

Over and out and I hope and expect folks to still enjoy the ex.

Hi sumzxr7,

As I said in my PM to you a few minutes ago, I am still working with your CSM and actively e-mailing to get her in touch with you. I haven't forgotten about you; I promise. :)

Thanks and I appreciate your help, but I have 0 confidence that she (the CSM) will call. I know for a fact that I will not get a single call today or later this week. Its been a week and half since I asked for a follow up and still no response from her. Its principle for me now....and its not they way a Customer Service Department should operate.

What did you get? How was the trade price?

Trade in price was OK. New car is loaded 2014 Platinum Premium Pathfinder. Not as sporty in looks but build quality is noticeably different. I'm sure I will hear some CVT comments but Nissan addressed this issue in 2014

Yuck...what a FUGLY SUV the Pathfinder is, especially in comparison to the EX. :thumbdwn::thumbdwn::thumbdwn:
To each his own...whatever makes you happy...
