I was talking to someone about my Explorer and he said I should byepass the ABS fuse with a switch and inline fuse so I can shut the ABS off when four wheeling. He was saying that way you can stop your truck when you want to without the pulsing. After we talked about it I was thinking back coming down Red Cone and I noticed the brakes pulsating on me, or maybe that was just the nerves in my leg.
Has anyone ever heard of this or better yet done it??????

Perry,
Most of the time I have hear people just pulling the ABS fuse. I like the idea of adding a toggle in-cab. It wouldn't even be that hard. Just a simple two-position switch to cut the connection and the ABS is gone... Got me thinking now

I've never tried to disconnect mine cause I've never found it to be a problem... though I've never driven a vehicle that DOESN"T have 4-wheel ABS so I guess I don't know what I could be missing out on :). i came down lions back with 4-wheel abs engaged and didn't notice any weird braking... I guess it's kinda like I prefer a rear-wheel drive vehicle spinning out in the ice to a front-wheel drive, because I have more experience with one type and I've gotten used to how to drive it...

I'm with matt on this one. I've had my abs click on me several time on the trail....never once did it get to me. It was more second nature to me. Although I did like the idea he had....I'll keep that in my rear pocket in case I ever do end up with problem.

Ps....matt....2500.....not bad :)

You've never driven a vehicle that doesn't have ABS? Wow, I guess times changed rather rapidly. I used to have a car with 4 wheel drums (what's ABS :) ) Power assisted? Not unless someone else was helping you to brake :D I think the very first car I had with ABS was my 79 Trans Am, but I don't think it was 4 wheel, just 2-wheel, though I could be wrong. Amazing how technology changes so fast.

well actually I take that back. My first car was a 92 F-150 and it didn't have 4-wheel ABS... but I went from that to a 98 F-150 that had it, to my Explorer that has it, to my new F-150 that has it!

This summer I had to drive an early 70s F100. Four wheel drum, those brakes sucked! It was a farm truck, so didn't have to be up to specs. If you hit the brakes at all, all four wheels would lock and you'd slide to a stop. Pumping didn't work, light pressure didn't work, they just sucked!

What does the 95+ Control Trac 4x4 act like with the abs fuse pulled and in Auto 4 wheel drive?? Has enyone tried this?
