Hi all!

I have a '98 Sport, 30k, Mint ~ While sitting in it with the windows up, rear windows shut and doors closed the amount of outside noise is driving up a wall!

Does anyone have any ideas for insulating or noise reduction??

Thanks

You could use Dynomat in the doors and floors... Is everything in perfect working order? Cause even my 94 on M/T tires and it's fairly quite inside

I think it's the tire noise. I have a '95 on Michelin LTX's and it's pretty quiet inside.

Thanks Guys I appreciate the responses but this is while I am parked, while i'm driving you can hear the motor, exhaust and alittle from the tires, the tires are actually pretty quiet!

Dude, it's a truck. It's noisy. Mine is too..... Try more padding and make sure all the little holes in the firewall are properly plugged....

LOL, I know it's a truck but it's louder than my '91 with 140K on it, I figured I upgraded to a 7year newer truck, it could get alittle quieter! lol

SOHC engine noise huh?

This could be a signal of a problem. Does it sound like it's dieseling at all?

no, no signs of dieseling ~ My girl just picked up a 2001 Sport and it's much nicer in the cabin, ass far as noise goes.

I knew I should have never gotton into her car! ! ;-)

Oh forgot to ask, is it an OHV or SOHC?

I don't think it matters because my OHV sounds very quiet when idling, it's pretty much silent. There's must be something wrong with the engine so hence the noise.

Yeah at an idle my truck doesn't make much noise at all from inside. Of course, it idles rough so I know it's running but I can barely hear it.

Guys, I appreciate all the posts, I really do, but the Noise is like when you are sitting in a house with old wornout windows you can hear all the noise from the cars passing outside as opposed to sitting in the same house after "andreson's" have just been installed.

I can't hear the engine at idle inside the truck, and the idle is perfect. It's all the noise of other cars, traffic ect... that is loud. Granted when I drive the truck I hear the tires alittle and the engine!

I know it's a truck and didn't mind it in my '91 but to go out throw 20k on a 7 year newer truck it should be atleast quieter in the cabin!

I think the dynomat idea was good, I might look into getting some insulation in the doors and under the carpet!

Thank you all,
If there is anything I can do, do hesitate

Oh.........

Sounds like your window seals need to be replaced. They go bad over time.

Has it been in an accident? If so, the door might be misaligned.

Definately check the window and door seals, also check the door latches. I take it it was purchased used. Even so, a 98 shouldnt have any of those problems. I've noticed also that when sitting still there is a lot of outside noise, especially noticeable after I first get in the Explorer after being in the Lexus, aint nothin on the road as quiet as that thing ;)

Try feeling for air leaks, if there are none consider dynamatting like already mentioned or other professional sound insulating solutions. They can have fantastic results.
