I'd appreciate some advice on a problem I am in the middle of, with my 95 Explorer. Here goes....
It's in the shop, because the check engine light comes on. When the tech reviewed the codes, he found there were none referencing any problem that would set it off.
After several hours of troubleshooting, they seem to have it narrowed down to the cam shaft position sensor. The price $400, plus 3hours of labor! The shop is telling me that for this version of 4L engine, the part comes as part of an entire synchronizer assembly, ie. can't get the sensor separately (which would be substantially less expensive).
Does this sound right? The tech I'm working with is normally straight up with me.... however, the bill gets bigger every time I call them for status.
