I have a 99 Explorer Sport SOHC with 20k miles on it, and well the check engine light came on so I took it into the dealer and they said that the cam shaft tensioner and o-rings. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this something normal? Doesnt seem like that should happen with only 20k miles on it especially since I've maintained it perfectly.

Is it the SOHC engine?
That was recalled because its a faulty part.

Also the Explorer Sport Truck forum is for the lowered people and the people with mods of that nature. Its not for Explorer Sports. I believe this question should be in the Under the Hood forum. This note is just for future reference.

Yes its the SOHC engine, they didnt say anything about a recall. My truck is lowered 2 inches, its def a street truck, got dubs on it, custom grille, and lighting. So I just figured Id post here. Next time its engine related I'll post in under the hood. Thanks for the link to that recall page, I appreciate that.

well, my truck had both of those go wrong with it. right now my truck has ~33k on it, but i had the o-rings and tensioner taken care of at ~27k. its a pretty common problem.

i'd love to see an updated pic of your x with the dubs on it and the drop. what size tires are you running? what kind of backspacing?

once I get some updated pics developed I'll be sure to post them. I just got the dubs for xmas so I havent gotten a chance yet to take any pics. In the next few weeks I'll try to get an updated pic up.

You should have received a letter from Ford in Nov/Dec 2000 regarding Owner Notifiacation Program 00M12. Do a search on the board by typing 00M12 and you will find copies of my 2-page letter that I posted a year ago. If you bought your Explorer used, then the letters probably went to the original owner. It is very common on the SOHC and so far the updated parts have worked for the last 20K miles on my '97.
