What did i do wrong? I set #1, pulled old syncro, new part went in with a little effort, fired right up no squeel, BUT no oil pressure.
so i pulled it down again when i went to line up the tool the rotor was not turning and now i can't get the syncro back out.
please be gentle as this is my first post and thanks in advance. I posted this in a sticky thread yesterday did'nt know if this 1 would be beter.

This is in a 98 mountaineer w/ 5.0

intermediate shaft

The spiral gear on near the bottom of the CMP sensor drive assembly is driven by the camshaft. The intermediate shaft below the CMP sensor drive must engage the CMP sensor drive assembly at its top end and the oil pump at its bottom end. Apparently the intermediate shaft was not engaged at one end or both. Assuming that you did not remove the intermediate shaft and forget to put it back, it probably was not engaged when you tightened the hold-down clamp and bolt. It is probably jammed at one end or both. I doubt that you were able to tighten the hold-down bolt to its original position.

Somehow you'll need to remove the CMP sensor and drive assembly and then check for damage. Hopefully any damage is limited to the upper end of the intermediate shaft. Do you have the CMP sensor alignment tool and know the alignment procedure?

I have the alignment tool, and when i tore down to check for alignment before removing the hold down, the center was not turning.
like it was not engaging the gear and yes the hold down wasn't holding.
could it be possible that it sheared the pin holding the gear.
what stumps me is it started and ran good but i noticed the lack of oil pressure and shut it down quick. thanks for the help.

V8 will run

I seem to recall someone posting in the past that the V8 will run with a bad CMP sensor. The injectors still open but they may not open at the right time. The CMP sensor assists the PCM to inject the fuel into the port just as the intake valve is opening. Without the CMP sensor working, the fuel is there but it may have to wait a while before the intake valve opens.

Or it is possible that the CMP drive assembly was engaged but the intermediate shaft wasn't. In that case, the CMP drive assembly would rotate but the oil pump would not.

Just to update. ended up using a slide hammer with a seal hook to get it out bought another syncro and reassembled fired right up, still don't have a clue as to why but i did notice that the intermediate shaft was real tight and looked like the end was plugged with sludge like it was a cheap reman part.
od on the end shaft micked out within .005 between new and old

Please tell me you bought a Motorcraft syncro assembly. If you bought a Dorman that would explain everything.

the one i got was from napa, which is owned by the local ford dealer.
no telling what i ended up with. just glad to have it running and the wife out of my truck.:D

the Dorman replacement parts are notorious for going bad.
just because a Napa is owned by a Ford dealer means nothing. If you bought it at Napa, 99.9% chance it's Dorman, and will need replacing again.

There are numerous threads where a Dorman part was used, and before too long it needed replaced again as oil pressure went to zilch.
