On your 96? The SOHC wasn't available till 1997.

You are right. The part I'm talking about is the tensioner that keeps the serpentine belt tight on all the components (alt. a/c. water pump....etc.) I'm not sure what that thing is called.

serpentine belt tentioner, shouldn't be more than a bolt or two to take that off and slap on a new one along with a new belt. Were any accesories damaged?

Real easy to do.Take air intake hose off, look down where tensioner is,take the belt off,15mm socket remove bolt,In my case the tesioner came off in 2 pieces, reinstall everything in reverse order.

Thanks I'll give it a shot. I don't believe any of the other components were damaged. I put a new belt on and see what happens.
