Camshaft help!!!

I am leaking fluid from the area in the engine where my camshaft is connected to the belt... I am completely lost in this area of my truck haha... If anyone can give me info on where I can start that would b much appreciated... If I have to relpace the camshaft thats gunna be a hell alot of work... and what would b the cost of this?

Timing cover, which engine do you have?

That would be the crankshaft pulley and that would most likely be the front main seal leaking.

Are you leaking oil? If so, it is most likely the front main seal.

First you will need to drain the oil.

Then you need to pull the fan and possibly radiator if you want more room (although it isn't completely necessary).

You will have to back the bolt out of the center of the pulley then use a puller tool to pull the pulley off the crankshaft.

After that you can replace the front main seal and check for leaks.

It could also be the actual timing chain cover seal.

Can you pinpoint exactly where the leak is?

If it is at the base of that pulley it is the front main seal.

Yes, if the leak is up behind the balancer, that will be the front seal. If so, take it very easy putting the seal in, the timing cover is aluminum and you don't want to hit it too hard.

The space in there is almost nothing, decide carefully whether it's worth doing in the truck, or pull the whole timing cover out to change the seal.
