Can I disconnect a 99 security system?

A few weeks ago I posted about my battery dying if I don't drive it for a while, and someone said that the security system will do that.

I am not real concerned about anyone stealing it, even if I did give up my comprehensive coverage/ Can it be disconnected without affecting anything else?
There is also some sort of anticorrosion device on the car, with a wire going to the negative terminal. Presumably I can simply take the wire off the terminal, and that will be that; any horrible thing I am overlooking there?

I seriously doubt that a properly working factory security system will drain your battery.

Check for other electrical issues.
