Can I fit 6.5" or 5.25" component speakers??

2004 4dr Explorer and I am having a stereo system installed. I know the doors are 5x7 but what other options do I have for speakers? Store has JL Audio 5x7 and they are pretty good but do not blow me away. Any recommendations.....can I fit 6x8? Will components fit? Is there an aftermarket adapter plate I can buy? Store wants to make them for $50.

6x8's should fit. I have a set of Kicker 5.25 components that came with a plate to fit the stock cut outs.
You can probably find others out there.

You can fit 6 1/2 comps. I have Alpine type x in my 04. Alpine type x and I believe type r come with the adapters. If you want to go with another brand here is a good place to get the adapters. Some of the nicest people I have ever dealt with.

Down to a few choices. Boston Acoustics....will SL80's or SX60's (true component) fit in the front doors?

Any advice on the two speakers. I liked the sound of the SL80's but they are $100 more.
