Can I Get A Little Off-Road Inspriration?

Personally, I think a picture is worth a thousand words and would rather look through an album. That's just me though.

I do like short write-ups and also explanations of the pictures and stories that didn't get photo'ed.

This pic has a nice story :D

Hey Alec, did you paint angel wings on your fenders or did your spray can paint job not hold up very well?

You the man Rick:D:cool: :exporange :chug:

I agree with toad, I know I am guilty of checking out posts, but not giving back a response.

If I may, I believe he meant that no-one looks, judging by the amount of views a thread which specifically mentions pics has gotten.
Views don`t lie, and I`m afraid I might have actually looked at those photos on three separate occasions, so that number should actually be lower.;)

-I feel your pain

I'd painted my fenders a few days earlier and we had a hard storm on the highway to the trail. Going 70 mph in the hard rain took the paint right off. I redid the paintjob with sanding, primer, etc and now it's holding up a lot better.

As for all the tire smoke, another bad thing about my less-lift approach surfaced on this trip. In the driver rear wheelwell is a pinchweld that comes down from the body floor. This spline would catch my tire and cause all sorts of problems with traction. Hampered me all weekend. On this obstacle, it didn't get in the way much, but caused me to lose my momentum and just spin my tires. Fixing this problem with 2 more " of lift in the rear and some cutting.

Actually, I have all, but stopped posting new trip pics and mods since I was barely getting any response to my posts
From now on I'll reply to every thread you start. :exporange
I quit... anyone want to buy a website
Hmmm. I wonder what my loan ocifer would say about that one? "Yeah I need a bunch of money to buy a website about Ford Explorers" "Hey honey I took out a loan, but we're not getting the garage and the new bathroom we wanted, I bought the Website!"

not explorer related but...

alright Rob, here's a pic of one of our Barnwell Mt. runs. this is me and my friend Matt on a Sami holding it down. it started to go over, and we both dove on it while another guy hooked up a strap to pull it up... my bronc is at the top paitently waiting on the Sami...

i have about 1000 off-road pics/stories, but i discovered very quickly i suck at taking pictures. i have alot of pix on some fairly hard-core stuff, and they all turn out looking like we were on a dirt road. any advice on picture takin'?

Yes! Zoom in. I see so many pics of peoples' trips on the board, and the trucks are almost indistinguishable from each other. Screw the scenery, I wanna see close-ups of everyones rigs! :D

simply put!!:D

A famous war photographer (Robert Cappa) once said if you're photographs aren't good enough you're not close enough. That is a true statement.

Unfortunately he died in battle:rolleyes:

I agree with Rick, the replys that have went with the threads bite. I've got several pics from runs that went nowhere. For me it's going into the middle of nowhere with friends and seeing the sites that you can't see without 4x4. The White Rim run was without a doubt one of the most fun I've had on the trail, and it was also one of the easier trails in the Moab area. The sites you see and being with friends is what got me hooked, and what keeps me going. That's also one of the large reasons I like this site. The people here are hell-of-nice people who make the runs fun. If you've ever went on a Serious Explorations run you'll know what I mean. The way the run flows, and the way the people act are top notch!! :D

rick and others- thanx for the tips. i know about getting in close and everything, i just cant figure out why i take a pic of a rig on a trail that you cant even stand on, yet it comes out looking like we were in someone's backyard. the rigs turn out great, i just cant "convey" the severity of the terrain in my pictures.

THE BENCH OFFROADER

im not ragging on anyone here, because i too have been guilty at times of "bench offroading." I(we) talk about doing this or that to our rigs, and before you know it, its been 2 months since the transfer case has been in low range. ive had mine down before doing mods for alot longer than it would really take to do the mod. it gets kinda discouraging, but ive gotten out of that problem. i built it to enjoy, i didnt build it for the sake of building it. i just have to remind myself of this from time to time. maybe instead of posting 15 times this weekend, i should have been wheeling.;)

I try to make it out wheeling at least once a week. Sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't. I'm in retail management so this time of year it tends not to happen as much as I'd like. And after that whole copter incident the other night we'll probably spend some time scouting out a new place that as nice as the one we usually go to. Here's a question though... am I the only one whole tends to only go wheeling at night?? I always see pics of people going in the day but never at night. I know it's alot safer in the day and everything but with the kind of stuff we do which is basicly mash it and hold on, oh and some skid control. That mud gets real slick sometimes. One of these days I'm gonna actually remember to take my camera and then I'll post some pics of the X getting a little air.

There really is nothing quite like being out there, or getting somewhere most people can`t. It`s almost a religious experience.

any advice on picture takin'?

I heard when trying to show how steep something is, you should get a side shot and try to include some trees in the background, since they almost always grow 90 degrees from level.

Of course I have many pics that didn`t do the terrain justice -I HATE that!

haha.. that was good for a laugh. yeah man.. didn't you know that painting wings on gives you about 80 hp extra. if he had used red or yellow, that would have jumped about another 50+ hp.

robb.. isn't that SAS your getting a pretty good inspiration for you? heck.. that has inspired me!

no kidding I am planning on going down to cory's to check out the sas when he works on the first one. I have a D44 lined up and I am ready to go, as soon as I come accross a work vehicle to keep me driving while the X is down.

Yea, but even with the great deal I have worked out with Cory, it still costs a bit of money to get every done. And of course, it is getting into the Christmas season, and you know what that means. My truck is at crlcustoms as we speak, so I can't even walk outside and look at it.

But the financial situation involved with creating my truck the way I want it leads me to needing as much inspiration as I can get!:D

Thanks for the pics and stories guys!! Keep em coming!

Robb
