I have a deal for a 2000 Eddie bauer 4x4 sitting in my lap! zero miles...full package...
Problem is, I hate the gold wheel flares and molded running board. does anyone know if the dura-flex material can be painted well!
I don't want to have to touch it up everytime I go into the brush! Can I remove the running board and find caps for the bottom of the flares? I've done some looking but I don't want to let go of this deal if I can make this first few mods.

I'll worry about the tech mods later!

I thought about a loaded 2001 sport instead (almost same price!) is this the better way to go?

just take all of it off the boards and flares

Snowinaz, welcome to the site. Explorer Express http://www.explorerexpress.com makes rocker kits that will cover up the holes left by removing your running boards. As far as the flares go, I haven't seen anything yet to cap off flares. Most flares are made to flow with the line of the running boards, and most brands are not interchangeable. If you do decide to have them painted, I would take them to a "real" body shop. They may add some type of flex agent to the paint. Just my .02, but I don't trust places like Earl Scheib, Maaco. Plus, if you are planning to go through a lot of brush, scratches on your running boards and flares are just the start, as I'm sure most people hear can atest to.
