I have just got a remote starter but I can only start it when I am next to it. Can I use my raido antenna for the remote starter. I have a 93 X if that helps.

It should have come with an antenna. I would check to see if the one it came with is no good anymore.

What kind of remote starter is it? I have had a Astro Start and now have a Sidewinder starter. They both can start my car from about 1500 feet away.

I know it is probably brand new but check the batteries in the remote on the keychain. Unless it is a really cheap starter you should be able to start that thing from at least 500 feet away I would imagine.

Also, where does the antenna mount for the starter you installed?

All remote starter should have an auxiliary alarm-antenna. Who ever installed it must've left it under the dash. Take it out and stick it neatly on the side of your windshield away from the tint. That should give you a lot better range.

As for the Radio Antenna, I don't know. I've never tried it.

No I mean it didn't come with one I don't know why but the place I got it from is no longer in business and I wanted to see if I could buy an antenna for it because I didn't see one pluged into it.

See what brand and model you have and see if you could order one online. If not go to a reputable Alarm place and they could probably get one for you for little $$$.

Yea, they should come with one...when i installed mine, i put my atenna right where the rear view mirror is...that is the most common place...well in alaska that is...

how hard are they to install by yourself and what kind of brands did you all get? Theres one at walmart but i think they would be a little more than $49...

I have an Audiovox that comes with this cool LCD remote. It has a lot features. Installing the alarm system is too complicated for me. I always bring all my cars to my Alarm guy. Let him have the headache of doing all that wiring. :)

An antenna needs to be a certain length depending on the frequency that it is receiving. I do not know the frequency the remotes run for starters and alarms, but I bet that they are quite high. The higher the frequency the shorter the antenna. With people posting that they put their antenna by the rear view mirror, I bet the antenna is pretty small. You’re best bet would be to buy an antenna made for the application. If you are going to use a radio antenna, look at an antenna for a remote starter and cut it to that length.

some antennas are small and some are pretty big...
