Curious to know how you blew it up.

Also the Rockford speaker line has gone way down hill if you ask me over the last few years...

(just my opinion) and I cant speak on the JL's cuz I've never owned them, but people seem to like them.

I would also consider other brands if I were you. You get a lot foryour $$$ with some of the upper end MTX woofers, Boston Acoustics makes a hell of a speaker in the competitor, and I have heard nothing but good things about Eclipse subs as well.

i really have no clue as to how i blew it up, it worked fine aboue 3 hours before, i get in my car and i can here this pounding on the inside of the speaker, i took it to performance they said the speaker coil is comming off the speaker....

but can i get some suggestions on some speakers that will hit harder than the rf series that are cheap but will work with a 500 watt amp?

Subs

Sorry to hear about your Sub blowing.....sucks huh? I'll probably get blasted from the diehard JL Audio fans in here, but what the h**l. I have two Kicker Comp C12vr4's mounted in sealed enclosures (approx 1.25cu.ft.). They are wired in parallel for a 2 Ohm load. Powering them is a Rockford Fosgate 500.2 (674 Watts) and these things really rock! I am not talking about the kind of bass you hear coming out of those ricers 2 blocks away (the constant boom boom), I am talking about clean hard hitting/pounding bass!! I have used a number of speakers over the years and personally prefer Kicker. I am very happy with them and they sound good to ME and that is all that counts. Let your ears do the deciding for you..... :D

I have to agree with 410 there. The whole Rockford line has gone down hill. We see more stuff come back that id defective then ever before at work. I think the bigger they get the worse they seem to be getting

You may want to look into an Adire Audio Shiva, or a Resonant Engineering RE12. They are wonderfully made subs that don't require a ton of airspace to sound good...

Peace!

It wasn't necessarily getting bigger.....

It was going public IMHO.
Anyway, JL redesigned their subs for 2002, and they started with the w0 series, knowing people put TONS of power to those subs since they are inexpensive and you can buy lots of them. Get one, and you won't be sorry.

oh yeah

If you don't mind speding a bit more, the Eclipse
Aluminums are probably the best sounding subs I've heard in a while. If only one would fit in my stealthbox!

Don't mean to sound dumb, but what is a stealthbox?

stealthbox

It's the fiberglass (sometimes thick plastic) housing for a sub which fits snuggly between the passenger rear interior panel and the passenger rear fenderwall. My JL fiberglass box is right about 1.0 ft^3 of space for my sub, which is supposedly the optimum (or very close) enclosure volume for that sub.
Those aluminum Eclipse's sound tight. Even better that the titaniums.
