I've been scanning this forum for about a half hour now, and while there is a plethora of useful info regarding the AC and heating systems, perhaps it might be a good idea to simply post a sticky that explains to simple joes like me where I can hook up my "AC in a can" setup to replenish the AC coolant..

I popped open my hood in the parking lot at auto zone and tried to find an OBVIOUS place to attach the little hose (something labeled RECHARGE AC HERE) but no luck.. I see a couple of things that looked like the might be it, but I didn't want to go pumping AC coolant into somewhere it doesn't belong..

Could someone post a detailed "road map", or maybe even a picture to where exactly this valve is?

I have a 2003 Explorer XLT V8 BTW...

All help will be apreciated,

I need an answer to the same question. I have a 4.0 but I assume the AC specs are the same. Is there anyone that can help us out?

well first off you don't have to worry about putting it in the wrong spot, the hose will only fit the low psi side of the a/c. The port will be some where on the low psi side of the a/c more then likely back right of engine. It will have a plane black cap on it about the size of a nickel. If not the back right look at the compressor might be there

OK, I found it. There are actually two black caps on the AC system. the correct one is located on the passenger side of the vehicle on top of the accumulator which is the canister looking thing in the front of the engine compartment. the amount of refridgerant depends on if you have rear a/c or not. Mine was empty, I charged it and still nothing, its going to a mechanic tomorrow.
