...when driving on 4x4 low on pawed surface? It is a 2000 FORD Explorer with 4x4 auto \ 4x4 high \ 4x4 low switch.
I know that I can't drive around on 4x4 low in my truck (91 ex) but 2000 ex has AWD not 4WD like mine. How do new Exs act when they are in 4low - it is still AWD?

What happened was that to my dilership came a woman driving new ex (she got it as a replacement vehicle while her car was on service) and when I parked it I found out that it has been in 4 low. I was thinking that she was out of her mind.

in 4x4 low range (does it actually have low range?) driving on paved surfaces could damage the system... and would also not allow any speeds of over 30 mph

Yes, I know that in my truck I can't drive in 4 low on pawed surface, but I am not sure how it works on newer explorers.

And yes it actually has 4 low. I have no idea how did she make it back to dilership...

if it has 4 low, she could have easily screwed it up... but if it works fine in regular awd or whatever it has, somehow, you got lucky then.....

They are all the same... NO 4x4 HI or Low on hard surfaces / pavement. I doubt she actually drove around in 4lo. She would have had to turn the switch to 4Lo while the transmission was in neutral and her foot was on the brake. May have run it in 4Hi for a while tho.....
