Do everyone a favor and file a complaint with the BBB and your local AG, take this is far as possible. Places like this tarnish the reputation of hard working and honest repair shops. I worked at a shop for over 10 years and our reputation was everything. While it may have just been one of the employees that did this on his own, the owner and manager of the shop are ultimately responsible for the work their shop performs. Sorry for your problems with this.

Well we did not drive the truck at all over the weekend, at the most just moved it around the driveway doing other work to it(removed broken re-circ door) and the light did not come on all weekend. I was begining to think that the issue was fixed and they put the tape on there to prevent me from coming back if it were to ever light up for other reasons. Well got a call from the wife about an hour ago, the CEL is back on, on the plus side the AC is working better than ever lol.

So once I get off of work I will put my lie detector on the OBD port and pull the code. I am willing to bet that the same P0401 comes up which means they never did fix the problem.

p401 is usually a bad dpfe sensor. DO you have access to a little hand held vacuum guage and pump. If so you can manualy open the EGR and while the truck is at idle the truck should start to stumble and eventually stall as the valve is opened up. This will just verify that there is the capability of enough EGR flow. I found my dpfe pretty cheap on RockAuto.com. I would only replace with a motorcraft part. DPFE4 was the part number I needed for mine.

Well here is where I stand, the repair while simple as it may be is not going to be done by me. I paid good money to have a re-manufactured engine with a 3yr/100k warranty on it, why should I have to get my hands dirty and spend my money to buy parts that I already paid for once? Before they replaced the engine I never once had a CEL light on in the truck, the guys who did the work somehow managed to break the nipples off of the original DPFE so they charged me for a new DPFE. They also managed to break the original EGR and EVR solenoid, which again I was charged and paid for new parts on thoes. In addition to paying for additional parts they broke he also charged me .7 hours labor to replace them.

Now this is just dawning on me, if he broke the DPFE, EGR, and EVR, then that means that somewhere during the replacement of the engine thoes parts needed to be disconnected or transfered. If that is the case then he would have had to have that .7 hours of labor already covered in the initial labor estimate to R&R the engine. If he did not have the labor already figured in then he should not have touched the parts and they should not have been broken, atleast thats what I am thinking.

he put black tape to turn the cel off i think that speaks of what he is capable of.
