has anyone ever heard of or know how hard it would be to change the front clip off of a 2nd generation x to a first gen x
i mean fenders,grill,lights and trim
whats involved and will it even work?
i really like the rounded front end

Perry's Fab n' Fiber makes a conversion kit to apply the later front to early models. You'll at least need their hood and front clip. Then you can use Ford headlights, fenders, etc; or you can use the Perry's fiberglass fenders.

If you want to do it easily go the fiberglass route. www.perrysfabnfiber.com . I believe they have some fenders with less of a flare than the more popular baja style ones.

if you are saying, and i think you are, that you want to put the rounded 2nd gen front on a 1st gen explorer, then yes, it can be done... it is a lot of work bc you have to change from clip, fenders, lights, bumper, and hood... I believe Perry's Fab and Fiber has the fenders and you can usually find someone on the board who has ideas/knowledge on how it works... I think even rick has done it to the Pumpkin ( I could be wrong)

front bumper conversion

does anyone know if the front bumper from a' 98 or '99 will fit a '97? I like the rounded fog lights much better. It looks as though it is a straight bolt on.

yeah 99+ was when they went to rounded, and yea it will work. I bolted up a 01 sport bumper to my 1996 explorer and it worked out ok

Thanks for the quick reply. I just located a wrecked 99 with an intact front bumper. Can't wait to get it on.
