I was changing the spark plugs today, and the one on the driverside closest to the radiator, was giving me problems. So I removed the egr tube to make more room, along with trying to disconnect the sensor from the back of the a/c compressor I believe, because Freon came spraying out when it broke off, along with some anti freeze I later saw on the steering shaft. I know the long black cylinder piece is the sensor, but I am not sure of the part that it screws into. I went to advanced auto, but he could only find the sensor, not the part it screws into. First, if I block off where the sensor screws in, can I still drive my truck without any ill effects to the engine until Monday when I can try to get to a Ford dealership? I cant upload pics, but if anyone wants, I could email/text the pics of the part to them. Also, its a 97 sport with the 4.0 sohc
Thanks

put your pics into photobucket and provide the link. sorry, i can't make heads or tails from your description. there's no antifreeze/coolant associated with the a/c compressor or its fittings...

Coolant is associated with the AC

Yeah, you can drive without worry. All you've done is vented your AC (freon) off.

Can you put the parts back together? If not, put a rag or something in the holes where those parts came from. You'll need to keep dirt and moisture out of the open piping until you get it fixed.

Do you know the name of the part off hand or should I wait until I get to the ford dealership on Monday and let them figure it out? I might just go to a junk yard and try to pull one off there.
Thanks for the help guys

I don't recognize the part. Can you post a pic of where it came off?

That appears to be the high pressure cutout switch for your a/c (Four Seasons #20916 ), but the piece that is broken is the fitting that it screws onto.

I will try and get a pic, but its dark out so not sure how good it will show.
Thanks again guys, I really appreciate all the help

The funny thing is, I ordered new kyb gas adjust shocks from rock auto, and were suppose to come today. So last night I put the truck up on jack stands, pulled the front wheels off, and figured, what a perfect time to change my plugs, wheels are off, pulled the wheel well covers off, should be a piece of cake lol. Not sure if the plugs were ever changed, but I don't think they used anti - seize on the threads of the plugs lol. Still have to put the shocks on, but wanted to take care of one issue first at a time

I'm not 100% sure but the fitting that you have broken I think is part of a line/manifold assembly that bolts to the compressor. Haven't been able to locate a good diagram or picture (Four Seasons#56701). Best of luck! If the plugs have been in there a long time, once I got them broken loose spray them with penetrating oil, thread back in and repeat working it out a little more each time. You don't want to break a plug or pull out the threads, unless you want more work.

What you identify as antifreeze is most likely the UV leak detection dye that is (was?) in the AC system. It's a greenish color that glows under a black light.

Bill

I did have the system checked 2 years ago to check for a leak, and last year I replaced the dryer unit. Even though the system was empty of freon prior to me changing the dryer, would the dye still be in the system Bill? I would feel better if it were the dye rather then the anti freeze

would you like to explain how there's antifreeze in the OP's refrigerant? it certainly not running through the compressor. i was thinking what he was seeing was UV dye. i can't see how breaking off a a/c pressure switch is going to cause an antifreeze/coolant leak.

I concur, UV dye would be the yellow/green fluid your seeing.

Thanks again guys. Would the sensor not being connected cause a check engine light
