Can you lower a AWD?

I have a 98 5.0 AWD, and I was wondering if you can lower it or not, I want to put some 18's or 20's on it, but I want to lower it about 2 inches, just so the wheels are right at the fender wells..any comments would be appreceated.

According to Explorer Express you can.

You can lower 4x4s (V6s) and they have the same front suspension and driveline as an AWD so I assume you can lower an AWD drive too. However, anything more than a couple inches probably won't work becaue of the halfshafts in the front.

A freind of mine lowered his 4" (after settling) the problem was getting it in line with touching the Torsion Bars. You can lower it in three easy steps:
1: Block the rear with 2or 3 inch blocks
2: un twist Torssion Bars in the front
3: Jump up and down on the front end, take measurments, if not even repet step 2

You can lower an x about 5 inches before you need to change tire size, so buy a set of Dubs and get rubber that matched your current Diameter. That way you can drive your stock rims to have it aligned and not wear out your dubs.
